By means of the term-condensing method[10] a new general function-the pseudo-potential function-is introduced, being a simple and consistent generalization of the potential function to general rotational turbo-flow. It retains almost all advantages of the potential function, while removing its restriction to flow potentiality (namely homentropy and homrothalpy). The general formulation of rotational flow along S_1-and S_2-stream sheets in turbomachines is derived, and methods of solution are given with special attention to transonic and supersonic flows, providing a new physically self-consistent and computationally simple flow model and allowing for the vorticity generated just behind shocks. Then a family of variational principles for the S_1-flow is established and based thereupon finte element solutions to some transonic flow examples are obtained, which agree with the Euler's equation solution and the measurements fairly well. This model can be further generalized to fully 3-D rotational flow, especially 3-D transonic turbo-flow.
