Examining the field-test type noise-monitoring system by using the noise radiated from the machine itself is one of the first steps for developing some machineries with health monitoring systems. Regarding to the gas-expander-train, which could be considered as a similar system to a gas-turbine with a combustor separated, we produced the noise-monitoring-system as a field-test type by way of trial. The hardwear of the noise-monitoring-system consists of the main personal-computer with connecting ten microphones and the multi-channels sound-level-meter for detecting noise, and the mini-computer for managing data-files. Sampling the noise at about evry four minutes and the average, the maximum and the minimum noise levels and spectra are calculated and saved to data-files periodically. More difficult problems solved on the field test are positions of microphones and the sampling condition. It was clarified that this system can recognise not only the change of noise but also detail changes of operating situations with respect to the gas- expander-train after the examination of some field- test.
