A number of studies on active principles in dry distillation tar from plant and animal has been previously reported by us. In Table 1 were summarized the isolated principles from egg, non-fat soybean, wood and rice bran tar, including newly isolated principles from egg tar. As shown in Table 1, it was some of interest that principles were classified into basic and acidic parts, namely protein rich sources like egg or non-fat soybean mostly produced N-heteroaromatic compounds (I)-(XI) and hydrocarbon rich sources like wood or rice bran produced acidic compounds (XII)-(XV). The results prompted us to study on pyrolysis of amino acid. It was found that pyrolyses of amino acids produced same kinds of N-heteroaromatic compounds as the isolated principles from protein rich materials.
