Features and technological issues of modern artificial satellites are explained from the viewpoint of mechanical engineering. Special emphasis is put on pointing accuracy requirement and its implication on vibration and control of satellites. With more and more stringent pointing stability requirement, the better performance has been imposed on attitude control of spacecraft main body and pointing control of onboard mission equipment(s). And recently, various kinds of microvibration caused by internal disturbance sources are paid much attention to Since they are often in frequency range higher than 50 Hz, they are well out of attitude control and most likely to remain unsuppressed bypointing control. Furthermore, they may cause resonant modes of spacecraft/mission equipment structure, thus leading to severe performance degradation. Examples of analysis, design and test relating to vibration and control of satellite are also presented.
