Effect of body height and ability of jumping on the height of tidemark in volleyball players. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of body height and ability of jumping on the height of tidemark in volleyball players. Methods: Twelve volleyball players and 7 controls served as subjects in this study. Again, volleyball players were subjectively divided in two groups by their coach; Higher Jumpers (VBH) and Lower Jumpers (VBL). Subjects jumped on the force platform with and without counter movement (CMJ and SQ J, respectively) prior to taking off. During both jumping, subjects kept their hands in their hip until the end of landing phase. Results: The body height showed the negative correlation with jump height both in the CMJ and SQ J. However, the jump height added to subject's body height (AdJH) showed the positive correlation with body height both with and without counter movement. All the subjects jumped higher in CMJ compared with SQ J. However, augmentation of the jump height with the counter movement in the volleyball players was larger than that in the controls. Conclusion: From these results, it was concluded that height was active index when coaches bid or select the players, and volleyball players might have more stiff muscle tendon complex in the lower limbs.
