Much of SLA research has the over-arching question: "What kind of instruction produces the best learning?" This article provides an overview of studies that have attempted in some way to answer this question. It also attempts to address whether; there is evidence that allows us to favour one method or approach rather than another? Have the researchers been asking the right questions? Have they been using the approprate research methods? Ultimately, is it possible to answer this over-arching question?
