This interim report describes a vocabulary acquisition and literacy development program for the study of Japanese. The program utilizes a list of Japanese vocabulary words from level 3 and level 2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, example sentences using those words, two word card software applications for a mobile computing device and a weekly test of the target vocabulary. This program was observed through eight weeks of a learning journal which is included in the report.
