In research on service learning, the focus has tended to be on educational process or educational effectiveness. In this paper, the emphasis shifts to the cooperating agencies in the community by considering the significance of service learning for these organizations and problems that have been raised on their side. Questionnaires carried out in 2006 and 2007 are analyzed for their evaluations of and feedback on the service-learning program from the perspective of community partners. The analysis indicates that while 80 percent of the respondents evaluate the "service" of the students positively in the objective part of the questionnaire, detailed comments describe ways in which the program imposed a burden on these partners. Issues of student dress and attitude, in particular, were raised in 2006 and as these concerns have been addressed, the complaints have diminished. An additional finding that needs further consideration is that it has been difficult for the community partners to know what it is that the students are learning.
