The analysis of urban traffic by Markov Chain has long been practiced but the application of this method to maritime traffic does not bring about satisfactory results. The reason for this is that the latter has a strong directivity. To deal with this problem, we have prepared a circuit with the current, instead of the crossing point, as the base, and thus made a transition matrix of the flow. Let us call the new process Current Method to distinguish it from the traditional Node Method. In this new method of ours, the order of the matrix is higher but the calculation is easier because of the single directivity. And also, for the same reason, we heve only to indicate the transmission routes of the signals, so that it is suitable for the analysis of complicated circuits. At the same time, however, because of the capacity limit of the computer against the higher. order of the matrix, we have divided the circuits into several blocks and dealt with them as cascade connections. Having applied the above-mentioned method to the analysis of maritime traffic in the Seto Inland Sea, we have obtained satisfactory results compared with the actual data.
