In order to study the effect of power supply voltage on make & break duration of relays, the electrical contact experiments with two different test samples, the commercial relay and the contact simulation test device, were conducted, namely, a large number of make & break operations under different voltage and current levels for both test samples were carried out respectively, and the arcing current/voltage waveforms in contact making & breaking operation were recorded. To better understand the bounce phenomenon in both making and breaking process, several time parameters during the contact's making and breaking interval are defined, respectively, and their dependence on supply voltage was statistically analyzed. The experimental result shows: the increase of power supply voltage will result in the corresponding increase of both make & break duration of the relay, bounce time in making operation has great influence on make duration, bounce in breaking operation mainly occurs at the initial stage of contact separation and the gap there and then is very short, so breaking bounce has little effect on the break duration.
