The concept of Messiah as Suffering Servant is said to be the proper belief of Christianity, as A Guillaume asserted one day and accepted by many. But I have guessed that there must be in the Judaism the antecedents for the Christian belief of the suffering Messiah. I think to have a clue in the so-called Songs of the Suffering Servant in the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, namely Isaiah 52:13-15. Here is msht, which has been discussed among scholars and usually translated "marred", "disfigured". But this word possibly means "anointment", or "anointed", that is Messiah. This is an explanation of D. Barthelemy, since the time of finding of Dead Sea Scrolls. I think this explanation should equally be esteemed.
