The purpose of the present study was to find out the changes in physical fitness with age in adult women. Cross-sectional study on 28 adult women, 20-65 years, showed the remarkable decrease with age in vertical jump, flexibility (trunk flexion) and agility (side step), and a slight increase of blood pressure in older subjects, while little change was found in muscular endurance. Longitudinal study was carried out on 19 of 28 subjects for 2.5 years from November 1968 to April 1971. No significant changes were found in flexibility, vertical jump and side step test during 2.5 years. However, grip strength and flicker values showed gradual decrease as aging. In these measurements, considerably large individual difference from subject to subject and individual fluctuation from time to time was observed, suggesting these factors should be taken into consideration in the study of physical fitness of aged persons.
