In this paper, we critically evaluate the result of Dollar-Kraay (2002a), which assets that an average income of the poor increases proportionately with economic growth. Analyses based on nonparametric and spline regressions show that the assumption of linearity they employed is not appropriate. Our results show that, among poor countries, average income of the poor rises only marginally with economic growth. Furthermore, nonlinearity in income share of the poor as well as in measurement error works in favor of their hypothesis.
