How are people cognizant of their own personality? This study was conducted with students to research self cognizance of personality by a description method based on paradoxical thinking rather than using a questionnaire method. The research was conducted using paradoxical thinking, developed by Jerry L. Fletcher, with subjects comprised of 284 students. In paradoxical thinking, one is brought to an awareness of the paradoxical characteristics of one's own personality and when these characteristics are recognized, change for the better can be realized. Eighty percent of the subjects expressed that it was effective to a degree. An outline of three cases will be presented. Paradoxical thinking offers a way of thinking that is A as well as B, but not A or B. Each has a positive and negative side that lead to bringing about change for the better by having A+, A-, B+ and B-. Self-discovery was found in many cases when the students conducted tactical exercises.
