The Kamishihoro site is situated on a river terrace about 30 meters higher than the recent river bed on the left bank of the Otofuke River. Two river terraces which were formed in the late Pleistocene were recognized in the northern Tokachi plane. Stone implements were found in the lower part on the pumice-fall deposit (erupted from the Shikaribetsu volcano group). We made trenched at one site, checked the geological setting of the beds and collected 168 stone implements at the depth of 1.3m from the surface. Characteristic forms among them were blades, fragments of blades, end-scrapers, side-scrapers, amorphous-scrapers, cores, fragments of points, utilized flakes and waste flakes. We believe this group of implements belonging to the pre-ceramic culture in Hokkaido. This group is possibily to be correlated with the lithic industry at Shirataki Loc. 13. The composition of the type of stone implements sewes as evidence for this.
