The main purpose of my paper is to describe the life style of the transgenderal Samoan men called 'fa'-afafine' , to discuss the possibility of a third gender. In particular, I take account their ability to adjust to the modern culture : Compared with conservative Matai leaders, they are successful 'trikster' who try always to absord the outside culture to achieve their dreams. Their traditional talents as 'cultural clowns' are still their important strategy for achieving success in adjusting to modern culture. What is also important to understand is that their adjustment, sometimes even leadership, has occurred in part from globalization.
