Although social conditions in Taiwanese history was influential to nurture Gezaixi, and this drama exists today that is representaive of Taiwan drama. Gezaixi uses a Min-nan dialect(閾南語)which is one of the Taiwanese dialects in a drama. For thatreason, the performance of Gezaixi was prohibited during the Japanese rule from 1895 to 1945. Because, during that period, Taiwan saffered from a Japanese policy of the movement of change for Japanese, and the Min-nan dialect was prohibited. In addition, Gezaixi received regulation of performance by instructions of National party which came newly from Mainland China flourishingly after war. They promoted National language(国語), just called Beijing language, and Chinese culture. Furhermore, this drama's contents were comical, and it got close to the common people. However, it was avoidedby intellectual people, both Japanese rule and National party. Because that contents were considered indecent, immoral, and "unpatriotic". However, the radio drama Gezaixi and the TV drama Gezaixi program started broadcast from 1950s, and these program were popularly received by Taiwan people.
