Needs Analysis in a Discourse Community

English teachers seem to have become interested in ESP(English for Specific Purposes) because there are more presentations with ESP key-words. ESP is a study to investigate English use in a certain community where the target learners will belong in the future. Targeting the students in the Architecture department who are taking English courses as compulsory subjects, some studies have been done using questionnaires and having interviews. We will see each summary of them. After we have a look at what the graduates use English for in their working environment, we will compare it with students' expectation of the real use of English. In the real world, people use English to get information mostly by reading. On the other hand, students believe that they will use speaking skills the most. When the students know these results, they may understand why reading is necessary in the class. This fact can encourage them. Based on these surveys, reasonable contents will be shown.
