Electrooptic Properties and Electrooptic Q Switch of La_3Ga_5SiO_<14> Single Crystal

The electrooptic coefficients of La_3Ga_5SiO_<14> (langasite, LGS) single crystal have been determined. The results obtained are γ_11= 2.2 μm/V and γ_41 = 1.8 μm/V. With the propagating light along the optical axis and the applied electric field parallel to the x or y axis, LGS single crystal has been configured as a Pockels cell placed in the laser cavity. The Pockels cell successfully acted as an on-off Q switch, and the output power of the YAG laser was 2J at modulated frequencies of 1, 10 and 20 times/s.
