The economy in Thailand has been growing up in recent years and its GNP goes up over 10% each year. However, the labor movement which leaves much to be democratized and much to improve working conditions of working people has been expanding in Thailand. Under these circumstances, the Government has been responding to the demand for the improvement of working conditions and the social welfare system has been drastically improved. In other respects, Thailand faces the necessity of dramatic rationalization of economic structure and management-labor relations because many other countries of Asia have raised their internationally competitive ability with their relatively low-waged labor market to compete with that of Thailand. "1 am afraid if the labor movement which indends to improve workers' wages and working conditions spreads out in Thailand, Japanese corporations there will face some difficulties in therr own ways of management "sald an ILO offrcer to me. This labor movement is one of the critical issues that Thailand should solve quickly.
