The purpose of this study was to clarify problems experienced by patients with head and neck cancer and their management during radiotherapy. Subjects were patients with head and neck cancer who were informed of the diagnosis and could communicate by speech. With informed consent for this study, a permission for recording was obtained, and a semi-structural interview was performed. From all data obtained from the subjects, what represents patient's anxiety, worry, difficulty, pain and their management were classified into categories, and each category was termed. The contents were analyzed by researchers to enhance reliability and validity. Problems experienced by the patients were clssified into the follwing 8 categories. They were 【Fear of cancer】【Worries about radiotherapy】【[Pain due to the side effects of the radiotheerapy】【Mental distress of being unable to eat】【Anxiety that recovery might be impossible】【Nuisances in hospitalization】【Dissatisfation with medical staffs】【Anxiety about rehabilitation】. Managemant with problems experienced by the patients were clssified into the follwing 6 categories. They were 【Reaching an agreement with themselves】【Preparation for treatment】【Alleviation of pain】【Efforts to eat】【Acquisition of ease】【Efforts to recover】 . Management with problems experienced by patients with head and neck cancer during radiotherapy included action mathods in which patients themselves make efforts to receive effective treatment. Therefore, as support for patients, it may be necessary to provide appropriate information on "Meal" that can be evaluated by patients themselves.
