AN IDENTIFICATION METHOD FOR JPEG 2000 IMAGES USING THE SIGNS OF DWT COEFFICIENTS(International Workshop on Advanced Image Technology 2007)

In this paper, an identification method for JPEG 2000 images based on the signs of DWT coefficients is proposed. The proposed method uses the sign bits extracted from JPEG 2000 codestreams for the calculation of the similarity of two or more different images. First, the products of non-zero DWT coefficient's sign bits between different images are used for the calculation of similarity. This calculation is performed very fast because only partial decoding of JPEG 2000 codestreams is necessary to obtain the sign bits. Second, it is described that considering the magnitude relation of the DWT coefficients, more accurate results of the identification can be obtained. The proposed method keeps the scalability of JPEG 2000 codestreams, thus not all non-zero coefficients are needed for the calculation of the similarity. From the experimental results, it is shown that the proposed method correctly identifies the target image from the sequences even if the adjoined images are very similar to the target image.
