Both covered conductors and bare conductors have been used in distribution power line. The covered conductor affects characteristics of lightning flashover voltages. It is considered that the flashover characteristics of an insulator used for the covered conductor are different from that with a bare conductor. In this paper, the covered conductor with pinhole damage was used as a line conductor, and experiments for the lightning flashover characteristics of the insulation part supporting the covered conductor were carried out. The positive voltage and the negative voltage were applied to simulate positive lightning and negative lightning respectively. This paper describes the experimental results of the lightning flashover characteristics of the insulation part supporting the covered conductor. For example, the 50% flashover voltage of the insulation part scarcely changes in the case that the location of the pinhole damage is far from more than 20cm to the center of the insulation part supporting the covered conductor, and the 50% flashover voltage on the positive applied voltage is higher than that on the negative applied voltage.
