This is a research study on how young athletes' performances improve under some new training methods introduced to the track and field club activities at Suzuka National College of Technology. The goal of this study is to find better ways of instruction to the club members; especially to those who major short-distance. It is said that acceleration phase is very important in the total sprint, and we showed them some new points of view to have more relaxed and smoother acceleration in their sprint. We focused on the improvement in performance from "set" position to acceleration under some instruction keys. Keys for better acceleration were as follows: 1. more relaxation in "set" position 2. smoother and more efficient weight shift at block clearance 3. keeping forward-leaning position of the body until the 30m mark According to their records, we found clear improvement in performance in the acceleration phase of their sprint after the series of training. We still leave the door open to further improvement in their latter part performances, in the maximum velocity. It is necessary for us to find some more keys of instruction, both physically and mentally, for the latter part of the sprint in our continuous study.
