A study of health recognition of female high school students was conducted in 1992. The results indicated that even though health related education had been given, it seemed not students' life style. Since 1992, the social environment of female high school students has been changed, the study of those age is needed. The research was conducted in June and July in 2000. The questionnaires were distributed to second year female students in private girl's high school in Tokyo, and sample of 258 responded. The data were analyzed by using SPSS. The average sleeping hour of students in 2000 was 6 hours and 13 minutes, and this was not significantly different from those in 1992. The average study hour of students in 2000 was 35 minutes shorter compared to those in 1992. The number of students who go to learning school outside the regular school drastically increased from 9.4% in 1992 to 73.6% in 2000. The result showed that the students in 2000 were more busy and much in stress than those in past. Many of the students considered that smoking was bad for body, and they intended not smoking in future. However, they tended to consider that drinking was good for health, and they were willing to drink when they became legally eligible. The result indicated the need of education regarding drinking for those students. The students had correct knowledge about daily requirement calories, but not about the nutrients. Although the average of Body Mass Index (BMI) was 19.5, 45.2% of students were willing to loose more weight. 88.2% of students received the education of menstruation. However, they had little knowledge of the menstrual cycle and the Basal Body Temperature (BBT) method. The results showed that students' understanding of their own health was insufficient. Therefore, health education for students to manage their own health was required, and it is an urgent need.
