The correlation between sedimentation velocity and particle concentration in hindered settling of glass spheres in water was compared with the data for water fluidization of glass spheres. Both batch and continuous hindered settling data are in agreement with water fluidization of glass spheres. This is a good indication that the fluid-solid dynamics involved in these operations are fundamentally the same. Therefore, it may be infered that the characteristics necessary for the planning of hindered settling operations can be presumed from the data of water fluidization.
