The gel-sol transition of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-borate aqueous solutions was investigated as a function of polymer concentration, molecular weight, boric acid concentration and pH. By employing a modified Eldridge-Ferry theory for thermoreversible gels, we found that the gel melting temperature vs. gel melting concentration curves could be superimposed with respect to the molecular weight of PVA and boric acid concentration. The enthalpy of crosslink formation was estimated to be around -7kcal mol^<-1> of junctions, which is consistent with literature values. The critical gelation concentration above which the solution is capable of gelation was also estimated as a function of the degree of polymerization.
