• Many government office buildings are reconstructed for several reasons every year. I analyzed and examined the reasons and the durable years of them. The result is that the reconstruction of the non-wooden buildings ma inly results from social, financial and especially land problem reasons, compared with the wooden buildings which are reconstructed because of decay. The durable years is about forty, and has little differences between the wooden and the non-wooden buildings. As the object of analysis, I chose buildings from three organizations of the Finance Ministry system, each of which had local agencies in all over Japan, and had a headoffice which controled them in the banner cities. I computed the presumable durable years of the existing buildings with the object of the practical application, though it had been difined as the mean lapsed years of the demolished buildings. As my way of thinking of the computation, I compared the durable years to man's spans of life, and computed the durable years thinking alike as follows. Presuming the life of man from babies to old men, at every class of age, from the result of death, I computed the average age by applying it to all suvivors by the application of the probability theory. I suppose this thinking of way is rather close to the real condition and more useful than the traditional thinking, for the purpose of the presumption of the remaining life of the existing buildings, and of the project of the reconstruction, the maintenance and the intergrity.
