It has been a long time since human societies on the earth were called a "global village." The international communication network crossing many borders thanks to remarkable development of information technology has enabled us to exchange views and ideas for mutual cooperation, existence and prosperity, but there still exist critical disputes and frictions among the nations or the peoples. Although we are apt to attribute them to miscellaneous problems of politics and economics, we consider it important to step into history, culture, national character (ethnicity) of both sides and investigate these differences. Specifically, we understand that cross-cultural understanding is essential in all cases to reach a true solution for the peaceful coexistence. In this paper, I attempt to approach intercultural understanding from a linguistic viewpoint. I will examine the term 'yoroshiku' often used in our daily life as a convenient expression of the request, and compare it with an English equivalent, though there can't be found an equal expression with strictly the same meaning. Therefore, I will discuss the psychology of those who use the expression with the purpose of clarifying the cultural difference cultivated among its users.
