• The purpose of this paper is to describe the life-world of the man who suffered from Hansen's Disease. How he made sense his life being ill with Hansen's Disease (HD), how he confronted with stigma on HD, how he passed it, how he overcame it, and what conditions permitted him to overcome it are discussed through interpreting of his life history. His experiences, especially, of working as hard as possible outside a leprosaria and of being accepted by his new relatives even though he lived in a leprosaria, made his identity firm. The findings on the properties of experiences derived from his life history will be elaborated by further consideration on experiences of other persons who suffered from HD.
