The dependence of GMR head readout output on the Soft-Underlayer(SUL) thickness are investigated using the simulator that takes into account the full magnetic interaction between GMR head and SUL. As a result, the readback output increases as the SUL thickness gets thicker up to a thickness of 60nm and it almost saturates over 60nm thick. Also, the nonlinearity of roll-off properties appears when the SUL thickness is thicker than 60nm. The nonlinearity might be caused by the off-plane components of the magnetizations which appear in a thick SUL.
