This paper reports the scintillation characteristics of a laser beam (6328Å) propagated through the atmosphere under various meteorological conditions. All the experiments were made after sunset over a 700m (350m folded) horizontal path (about 15m high above the ground). Obtained results, such as normalized standard deviations and correlation times of the beam intensity and structure constants of the atomospheric turbulence, are graphically shown with each meteorological parameters and their mean values are tabulated. Furthermore, the attenuation constant to 10min. rainfall or snowfall was determined by the measurements of beam attenuations in rain or snow. These results may be useful for micro-meteorological analysis of the atmosphere as well as for optical communication practice.
