国立情報学研究所の「学術雑誌公開支援事業」により電子化されました。The purposes of this paper are to present a basic model of what 'student-centred learning' (SCL) constitutes in terms of theory and application, to look at some of the problems that may be encountered when applying SCL techniques in the Japanese, English as a Foreign Language (EFL) high school classroom (with implications for other EFL milieux), to provide some suggestions as to how these problems may be overcome, and to indicate what might characterize an effective EFL class for Japanese teachers in Japan. The paper does not pretend to be an exhaustive study of any of the above areas but aims to provide a starting point from which EFL high school teachers wishing to implement SCL approaches may proceed.
