This is the research to develop a new type of wood-fired kiln having the following characteristics by correcting weak points of a traditional climbing kiln. 1. Does not occupy a great deal of space 2. Shorter baking time 3. Smaller number of personnel required 4. Less fuel required 5. Less smoke produced 6. Texture particular to wood-fired kiln Our goal is to design and build a wood-fired kiln, which will be able to achieve these points above. This is one of researches of the program to promote joint research by Industrial, Academic and Public Sectors of Okinawa Prefecture-for fiscal 2004 conducted by the Okinawa Industry Promotion Public Corporation and the Okinawa Kucha Red Clay Molding Business Union, under the leadership of the Maruta Laboratory, Department of Design and Crafts, the Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts.
