The fuzzy control is a control to execute such an operation as a skilled operator does by using a fuzzy reasoning on the computer. In the existing fuzzy control, in most cases, the control rule has been expressed in the If-Then form, and a fuzzy reasoning has been performed with computer software. In this research, a dedicated hardware for fuzzy reasoning was developed by using FPGA, a reconfigurable device, with the goal that speed acceleration can be realized by producing the part where fuzzy reasoning is performed within the hardware. In addition, we made a line trace robot equipped with the fuzzy control circuit, as well as two optical sensors to sense its position. It was confirmed that the fuzzy control unit was available through a line trace performance of the robot.
