漱石『木屑録』の旅 : 風景の成立

Natsume Soseki and his friends did travel to round the Boso Peninsula from August 7th 1889 to the 30^<th>. Returned from the trip to Tokyo, Soseki wrote the travel book, Bokusetsuroku in classical Chinese, which referred to his experiences on the trip, and asked his friend, Masaoka Shiki, to review this book. In this paper, I would like to analyze Bokusetsu-roku discussing such focal points as: 1) the issues concerning Soseki's knowledge of classical Chinese and his style of travel writing: 2) the ways of describing Boso sceneries with regards to Soseki's perspective as a prose writer: 3) how Boso sceneries are signified in the narrative. It is clear that Soseki was impressed by the natural beauty of the Boso Peninsula. For Soseki, the travel to the Boso was not just a travel for sight-seeing, but it was the literary practice of searching for the way to go beyond the concepts of realistic sceneries represented by the Chinese poetry and the Painting in the Nanga style.
