This paper reports on a three-year speech project to improve students' reflective skills and to raise their awareness for a good speech. Students used L1 to reflect on the process on making a speech in L2 ; the next step was that they were asked to come up with criteria for a '1istener-friendly' speech. They were also asked to use their criteria to make peer and self-evaluation of the second speeches. The evaluation enabled students to reflect on their own performance. The effectiveness of this reflective learning in three groups was investigated and compared. All groups raised certain amount of awareness for the good speech. The result showed that the novice group got more benefit from this awareness-raising activity than the advanced group did.
