Damping characteristics presumption method of composite curved beams with a constrained viscoelastic core is presented. The damping properties of vibration are analyzed by means of the Ritz method. Displacement functions satisfying the boundary conditions are assumed in the form of a power series. The complex eigenvalue problem, which is derived by means of minimizing the energy functional, is solved to determine the natural frequencies, modal loss factors and vibration modes. A solution of the problem is presented for three boundary conditions, such as clamped, simply supported and cantilevered. The accuracy and validity of this presumption method and the present results are illustrated through investigation of convergence and comparison with the established results from the literature. Numerical results are presented for different parameters, such as curvature, material loss factor and thickness of a viscoelastic core.
