This paper aims to indicate general factors of attractiveness in urban tourism, making use of the principal component analysis, based on recent data which clarify the images Japanese people tend to have of Japanese cities. This paper also investigates into some of the cities in Yamaguchi prefecture to illustrate the applicability of such factors. The main results are as follows. 1) We can find out three factors as the attractiveness in urban tourism in Japan. 2) The first one is "the urbanity with identity" which includes two concepts: the concept of "urban and artificial" as opposed to "rural and natural," and the concept of "unique, original and characteristic." 3) The second factor is "a sense of the times" which includes the concepts of "historical, traditional and healing" in contrast to "modern, advanced and active." 4) The third one is "substance" which includes the idea of "economical benefits, materials-oriented and reality-based," not the idea of "cultural, spirit-oriented and abstract."
