With the Open Door Policy since 1978, positive reform policy and invitation of foreign direct investment have made China experiences a remarkable economic development during the past two decades and at present. However, parallel with the other developing countries, the condition of agricultural production and economy of the vast farming village in China, especially mountainous region and remote area, has remained in a relatively severe situation. Though the Open Door Policy, China has declared with the aim of correcting the different income distributions between rural and urban areas. However, under the existing political and economic structures, policy tends to favor economic growth over the relaxation of the income difference. Moreover, the difference between suburb and city in the identical region is also expanding. This paper investigates the economic development of the suburban farming village in Shanghai city under the socialist market economy, and it aims to clarify the actual condition of the economic development and living environment in a specific area.
