This paper presents a cognitive analysis of the denominal verb eye in English. First, it is argued that eyes serve as active zones, which are portions normally backgrounded when we describe an event (cf. Langacker (1991, 2000)). It is also shown that eyes have a psychological function such that the experiencer's modality emerges directly, as well as a biological function such that he or she fixes his/her eye on something or runs his/her eye somewhere. Based on these observations, it is claimed that the noun eye can be employed as a verb if the referent of it becomes salient as a location from which a sort of feeling of the experiencer emerges.
