The Osaka prefecture has the largest share of warehouse area in the 47 prefectures, as well as the storage volume and the end-of-the-month outstanding volume. The warehouses are largely concentrated in the port district around the Osaka port and the inland district such as lbaragi & Higashi-Osaka. In terms of the date of establishment, both old and new warehouses are found. The largest number of them is headquartered in Osaka, followed by Tokyo, Higashi-Osaka and Sakai. Their operators are mainly transport and warehousing businesses, In view of the headquarters' location and the available space, the majority of Osaka-based businesses are of small scale, while non-Osaka-based businesses are mainly of medium and largescale, Regarding the size of business, transport businesses operate small-scale warehouses; though operating small-scale warehouses, warehousing businesses run medium-and large- scale ones as well; makers specialize not only in small-scale but also in large-scale ones.
