Generally speaking, the concerns of people for creating a richer urban landscape have shifted from a focus on increasing the quantity of greenery in their environment to attempt improving the quality of greenery, and it has been very important to clarify the relationship between the human behavior and the urban landscape in this development process. The quality of greenery is produced by the relationship between the various elements which compose the urban landscape and the human responses (mainly the activities to contact greenery). In order to improve the quality of greenery, it is important to focus on the attitudes in which people contact the greenery in the daily activities. This study intends to obtain the knowledges regarding the urban landscape development process based on clarifying this relationship viewed from the multiple dimensions. On this standing point, it was proceeded analyses using the informations which were collected by interviewing to housewives who were living at five different areas and four different housing types in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture. Analyses were proceeded from the following three different view points; 1. Collection of the information regarding their daily activities and active spaces. Assessing their daily behavioral patterns from the viewpoint of a time dimension and to clarify the relationship between human-green contact and the urban landscape. 2. Collection of the information regarding their experiences and attitudes towards incorporating and increasing greenery into their own living environment. Assessing the status of greenery from the viewpoint of a cognitive dimension and to clarify the relationship between human-green cognition and human-green contact. 3. Collection of the information regarding territories of their daily activities, routes of their routine movements and distribution of "Impressive Greenery" which were noted the areas of their daily activities. All these data were overlaid and made into maps; one showed the daily movement patterns and also the other showed the distribution of "Impressive Greenery". Assessing the image structure of greenery from the viewpoint of a spacial dimension and to clarify the relationship between human-green cognition and the urban landscape. The study viewed from a time dimension led the following findings: 1) Leisure and outdoor activities patterns of housewives were influenced by the physical conditions of the urban landscape such as locations of dwellings in the urban areas, landuse of surrounding areas, housing types, and size/quality of gardens. 2) The characteristics of this patterns could be expressed as the time structure. The study viewed from a cognitive dimension led the following findings: 1) People's concept of greenery could be different depending on the status of greenery; whether they were public or private, according to their responses, and frequencies of their green contact were many or few, in their daily activities. 2) The characteristics of people's attitudes towards incorporating and increasing greenery could be expressed as the cognitive structure of green. The study viewed from a spacial dimension led the following findings: 1) The territory of people's daily activities was classified into the four stages, and the various greenery were classified according to the stage of this territory. 2) The characteristics of people's green cognition could be expressed as the spacial structure. Through the discussion of this study, it was drown some important concepts for considering the meaning of greenery in future urban areas, and also was able to clarify the time and space unit, the position and function of the subject bodies, which are to be in charge of planning, developing and maintaining greenery in the urban landscape.
