With the Open Door Policy since 1978, positive reform policy and invitation of foreign direct investment have made China experiences a remarkable economic development during the past two decades and at present. However, parallel with the other developing countries, the dilemma between "development" and "environment" has also made Chinese society in a relatively difficult choice. By its ideal location in the forefront of the Open Door Policy, the farmer of suburban farming village in Shanghai obtains employment opportunities from so-called "Township and Village Enterprises" after its farmland has been expropriated. However, the rapid change of the living environment has deteriorated the traditional farming village society in China. This paper investigates the living environment of the suburban farming village in Shanghai city; it aims to clarify the actual condition of the state of the environment and the social issue in a specific area.
