1. The present study was undertaken to determine the diversity of the germination percentage due to the difference of the time of harvest and seed-bearing position on the mother plants. 2. The seeds of Amaranthus, Celosia and California Poppy were harvested at ten days interval when they turned black and became mature, and the position of harvesting heightened gradually from the base of stalk upwards. 3. In the case of Stock, the flower buds of each plant were picked out from the base of stalk upwards being left ten by ten which were made to develop into seed, so each plant had ten buds in the different height, and when all of the seed-pods had completed the maturation they were harvested at a time. 4. The harvested seeds of every lot were stored in a desiccator until they were used for germination test. 5. Despite of the length of storage period, the germination behaviors of the seeds tested were varied with the time of harvesting or the fruiting position on the plant, that is, in the case of Amarantus and Celosia the seeds fertilized in hot season germinated poorly, while those in cooler season showed higher rate of germination, and the seeds of upper part of the plant harvested in the late autumn reduced the germination slightly. Amaranthus seeds increased their germination in the dark, on the other hand, the germination of Celosia seeds were favored with light, showing higher germination rate at 30℃ than at 20℃. Such trends were conspicuous at the lots of well germinated seeds. In California Poppy the seeds matured early and late in the season germinated well, but those in the middle of the season germinated poorly, and such fluctuation of germinating behavior did not always follow with the climatic condition in which the seeds developed. In Stock, there were not so great differences in the germination capacity among the lots, but some decreases of the germination capacity were observed by the seeds cropped at the upper part of the stem.
