Coke oven gas (COG), by-product gas of iron mills, has high potential to supply a large amount of hydrogen with a high-energy efficiency, and is expected as a hydrogen source for fuel cell vehicles in the future. Hydrogen from COG is suitable for large-scale production in off-site area, because established infrastructure in the iron mills located nationwide can be utilized. This paper describes the present state about the hydrogen production technology from COG and transportation technologies of pressurized and liquid hydrogen including pipe line and tracks, which are used for distribution to hydrogen stations from hydrogen production facilities. Challenge to establish a hydrogen supply system is discussed. The hydrogen supply technologies were demonstrated in national projects such as JHFC (Japan Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Demonstration Project) supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
