It may be natural that Saussure's linguistic theory should be bashed by so many linguists, because he was dead ninety years ago and a lot of new linguistic theories have been alleged during the 20th century. The writer also criticizes some of his assertions, the greater part of which, however, the author thinks that are right as yet. In this article his three assertions that fallow will be investigated : - (1) Langue and parole Coseriu proposes us a trichotomy of language (system, norm and speech) on behalf of Saussure's dichotomy (langue and parole). The writer doesn't believe that Coseriu's trichotomy be valid, be-cause the norm is only a subdivision of the speech. (2) Synchrony and diachrony Saussure asserts a sharp distinction between synchrony and diachrony, but the author doesn't think that in some fields of linguistics, especially in linguistic geography, the above distinction should be sharply made, because by comparing synchronically two words of analogical meaning that appear in a linguistic atlas, we can know which one is diachronically Older than another. (3) Structuralism (a) Saussure is a first proposer of the close relation between individual and total (system or structure).
