The purpose of this study is to survey workers' lifestyles under severe economic situation in today's Japan using revised short scale. Framework of lifestyle measurement is in Fig.1 and Fig.2. The transverse axis is physical space consists of the field of labor, living, and social activities. The vertical axis is psychological space consists of work orientation, leisure or free orientation, and social activity orientation. Consequently, we have nine cells from the 3 by 3 matrices. In addition, respondents answer two kinds of questions; (1) what and how they recognize the current circumstances, and (2) how much they desire or expect about the issues asked. We can estimate where each worker thinks he or she is now and where he or she is heading from the responses. As the results, both men's and women's general lifestyle profiles showed that they want to reduce working and enlarge living and social activity. Results by the survey among people with managerial positions showed that the upper the job ranking is, the more separated the real lifestyle is from the expected one. Particularly, female managers' difference between their real lifestyle and expected one is big. Also, this survey clearly showed that a lot of overtime is an obstacle for workers' well-balanced lifestyles.
