Electronic Navigation Research Institute has been researching wake vortex at the aim of reducing separation of departure aircraft since FY2002. We firstly detected wake vortices generated by medium commercial aircraft (B767) using wind profile Lidar in FY2002. Based on the result, we newly made Lidar for the wake vortex observation and started observation in 2004. The Lidar is set up at our branch site adjacent to Sendai Airport. At the airport 100 commercial aircraft take off/land a day. Most of them belong to category M. This time, we report the activity of wake vortex research, and show some observation results of the wake vortices generated by the commercial aircraft.
