A carrier with small rollers or balls is often used to transfer heavy and large loads. The rollers and balls work as absorbers of friction losses between loads and the base. If they had their own rotating forces, the friction losses will reduce much more. The author proposes a novel movable roller developing a self-rotating force. This paper deals with the principle, the configuration and the experimental results of the movable roller. First, a torque equation of the movable roller is introduced by means of the electromechanical theory. Second, the developed torque of a small movable roller made for the experiment was measured. The measured torque was small because of large air-gap. However, this movable roller has the potential for the carrier transporting heavy and large loads.
